Sometimes it can feel that the Psalms are just a mishmash of songs and poems written in a time and context that couldn’t be further from our 21st Century experiences. But if we’re prepared to take a closer look, we can see that they have so much to offer in helping us navigate the numerous ups and downs of our everyday lives.

These one hundred and fifty Psalms were the prayer book of the people of Israel.

They were the prayer book of Jesus.

And they form the prayer book of the church.

This isn’t because for every life situation there’s a Psalm to match it, far from it. But if we’re prepared to use them and dwell in them, they offer us a helpful language to respond to God about what is going on in our lives. In fact, the more we use them and understand them, the more prepared we can be in our walk with God, whatever might be going on in our lives.

Other teaching

Sometimes a series comes along and you just have to hold your hand up and say ‘wow’. All of Tim Mackie (Bible Project)’s content is excellent but this series on the Psalms from his own podcast, Exploring my Strange Bible, is exceptional. Take the time to have a listen and we pray that you encounter God as you do.
