Pastoral News: 28 June 09

On Saturday 4th July there will be the opportunity to meet from 10am to 11.30am in the Tickford room to have a good old sing! We will sing some favourite hymns and songs - requests are welcome - as well as trying out some newer and less well known worship songs. Who knows, we may even bring in some parts and try a bit of harmony.

It is hoped that this will be the first of many 'Saturday Sings' and will give us the chance to worship with our voices as we learn and practice songs for use in Sunday services etc. All welcome. Refreshments at half-time.

London Women’s Convention

On Saturday 3rd October 2009 the London Women’s Convention takes place at ExCel in London. Full details of this event are available in the corridor. This year the event theme is “Unashamed” with seminars entitled “Unashamed of the Gospel”; “Unashamed to suffer for the Gospel”; “Testifying to the Power of the Gospel”; and “A Passion for the Gospel”. The aim of this year’s convention is to convince us of these truths and prepare us for “A Passion for Life”, the national evangelistic mission events in 2010.

Guest speakers include Di Warren from Sydney and Rico Tice, Associate Minister with responsibility for evangelism at All Souls Church, Langham Place, London.

If you plan to attend this year, please let Yvonne Wilkinson or Beth Ruston know as soon as possible so they can take advantage of a reduce ticket price for groups and co-ordinate travel plans.

Food4Thought

If anyone would be willing to bake a cake for Food4Thought for Sunday 5th July it would be appreciated. Please let us know by adding your name to the list in the Foyer. Thank you; these cakes are greatly appreciated by those who attend F4T.

Inter Church Quiz League

The second round of the league takes place on Friday 3rd July at St Mary's Church. Woughton on the Green at 7:30pm. In the first round Barbara & Keith were our sole representatives from NPBC and just about managed to avoid the wooden spoon. It looks like they will be on their own again in round 2 unless up to 4 people can lend a hand (or brain). If Andy Murray is playing in the semi finals, not even dynamite will remove Barbara from the TV. So if you would like to exercise your mind and have an enjoyable evening in a Wimbledon free zone, please speak to Keith or Barbara Bedford today.

An open invitation from Councillors Euan & Irene Henderson

It’s a great honour – and a joy to us both – to be Mayor and Mayoress of Milton Keynes. One of the most important events of our mayoral year is the Civic Service. So we have chosen to hold it in Newport Pagnell’s Parish Church of St. Peter and St Paul. It will be on Sunday 5th July at 4.00pm.

We very much hope that many Newport residents will join us for this very special occasion. No need to book or RSVP. Just turn up on the day. We look forward to seeing you there.

To all on the Flower Rota

The refurbishment of the kitchen is imminent. If you have any personal vases in the kitchen cupboard it would be helpful if you would take them home with you. Likewise if you have any dishes or tins please reclaim them ASAP.

Request from a Former Member

Some of you may remember James Lerner who was a member at NPBC from 1988-1990. We’ve received an email from James this week. He is now living in North Wales and would be interested in making contact with anyone who may remember him. You can contact James through Facebook.

The Best Book to Read is the Bible

Preaching Elsewhere

This morning we remember in prayer our member Keith Bedford at Litchborough for a united service with St Martins Church.
