Pastoral News: 10 January 10

We remember Celia Stone’s sister in hospital in Peterborough having suffered a stroke, and Keith Bedford’s mother in the Edith Cavell Hospital, Peterborough, where she has been unwell for some long time now. Our thoughts and prayers are with them and their families at this time.

We remember Kath Hatch, who worships with us occasionally, in her concern for her husband Ern, who is in hospital in Milton Keynes.

We are glad that Jacob Ellmer successfully underwent surgery in hospital this week, and can now hear much better!

We also remember Angela Gordon in her care for her father as he is resident in the Windsor Unit at the Bletchley Community Hospital

Liz Spruce is in MK Hospital for tests following an angina attack, and we pray for her that she will soon know the results of the investigations and be able to return home.

Thank You

Steve, Tracy, Rebecca and family would like to say “thank you” for all the prayers and support, and also the messages of sympathy received since the loss of Steve’s father recently. Although it’s been a difficult time, it’s been made easier knowing that people have been praying for them and knowing God’s presence.

Church Meeting

The next church member’s meeting is taking place on Tuesday 19th January at 8.00pm in the Tickford Room. The minutes of the previous meeting held in November are available for members to read today. They are located in the green folder by the Stewards table.

Lent Lunches

Lent lunches will be served in the URC hall on Fridays for 6 weeks from 19th February to 26th March from 12.15pm to 1.30pm. Soup, bread, cheese, tea & coffee will be served at a cost of £3. All profits to Christian Aid. Please contact Jennifer Mazzone to help serve the lunches on 613088 Thank you.

Lent House groups 2010 – ‘‘Jesus’ Final Week’’

Following many successful years, CTNP are again organizing the inter church Lent House Groups. You may not have participated before but those who have find them very rewarding to discuss aspects of our faith with other Christians & prepare themselves for Christ’s journey to the cross & resurrection.

The study chosen this year is “Jesus’ Final Week” by Cindy Bunch. This is one of the Lifebuilder Bible Studies from Scripture Union. The book has 8 chapters but as house groups run only for 5 weeks some chapters will need to be studied together. The chapters are based on the stories in the Gospels recounting the last week of Jesus from his triumphal entry into Jerusalem to the agony of Good Friday & the victory of the resurrection. Eight days that changed the world.

The house groups will run from 22nd February for 5 weeks ending the week before Holy Week. To take part in a group please complete one of the Lent Group forms available today from the Steward’s table (or table in the corridor). Please return the completed form to Catherine Hall by Sunday 7th February at the latest. The group leaders will contact you to confirm the time, date & venue for your group. There will be a modest charge of £4 to include a book for each participant.

Service Details 10/01/10

Good morning and a warm welcome to our worship which is led by our elder Trevor Ransome. Trevor will be asking “What Do You See?” based on Hebrews 12:2.

Service Details 17/10/10

Next Sunday 17th January at 10.30am Steve Greenfield and Paul Rosier lead our worship. Paul will be speaking on “What’s Missing?” from Mark chapter 10.

In the afternoon at 4.00pm in the Tickford Room Amy McLeod will be giving a brief presentation about her months of work in South Africa. This will be followed by tea.

In the evening at 6.00pm there is a service at the URC to mark the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity.

Week of Prayer for Christian Unity

Join the Prayer Vigil by praying in one of the half hour slots from 9.00am to 1.00pm on Saturday 16th January in the Methodist Church. Leaflets will be available to guide you in prayer if you wish. Simply add your name alongside a slot on the poster on the notice board, and then come along and pray by yourself in the church. The aim of the rota is simply to try and ensure that there is a spread of people praying throughout the vigil.

Please also note that there is a United Service taking place on Sunday 17th January at 6.00pm (see above).
