Pastoral News: 04 October 09

Harold Heath-Coleman is currently resident at the Waterhall Care Centre, Fern Grove in Bletchley. It is hoped that before too long he may become a resident at Tickford Abbey here in Newport. We remember Harold in his new surroundings, and pray that the coming days will be settled and peaceful for him.

Peggy Oliver, one of the members of our Food4Thought, is in Milton Keynes Hospital, and we pray for her as she is very weak.

We continue to remember Georgina Keeping, a member of our Bethany Centre, as she is unwell at home.

International Harvest Lunch

A big thank you to everyone who came to the Harvest lunch last Sunday and for those who came in their colourful national costumes. We sampled a variety of delicious African dishes cooked by our friends and members from South Africa, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi and Zambia. Thank you, too, to everyone who helped prepare before the meal and cleared up afterwards. It was a happy occasion when we had time to chat and get to know people. Some food was generously donated and we have been able to add the sum of £130.91 to the gift for TEAR Fund.

Emma Welch is running for the British Heart Foundation.

On 4th October Emma Welch is running 5km for the British Heart Foundation. It would be lovely if you could sponsor her. If you feel you would like to, just go to http://original.justgiving.com/edw and sponsor online.

Carnival 2010

There is a CTNP meeting in the Methodist School Rooms at 8.00pm on Thursday 8th October for all those interested in the possibility of a Christian input to the Carnival next year. It would be good to have a representative from NPBC there. Please see Catherine if you would like to attend.

Samaritan’s Purse – The power of a simple gift

As in previous years NPBC is to be a drop off point for shoeboxes for Samaritan’s Purse. The drop off dates for shoeboxes is from Sunday 1st November until Wednesday 19th November. If you would like to take part please take a leaflet giving suggestions of what gifts to place in your box. All boxes from this area will be going to Belarus.

Wanted: empty shoeboxes and shoebox fillers. All boxes are checked before leaving the UK to ensure they all contain similar items. Sometimes they are short of soap or toothpaste etc and these have to be bought. Therefore multiple packs of soap, pens, rubbers etc which can be used as fillers are very welcome. Please leave in the box provided in the foyer.

If you would be interested in helping to sort the boxes at Bedford from 2nd November please speak to Catherine Hall (612292) for further information.

yPod Details

Outlined below is the yPod and Sunday evenings schedule for the next 3 months. The initial plan for this term had been to introduce a regular Sunday evening yPod for school years 8-9 but that's not been possible at present for a number of reasons, all of which we'll have ironed out for January. However, we are running two taster evenings for which the dates are below - this will not only enable us to see what interest there is but also allow our young people in that age group to see what they're letting themselves in for.

It's also worth highlighting the new monthly Cross Purposes evenings taking place on the second Sunday of each month. These are for young people all over Newport Pagnell aged 11 (school year 7) and up and include worship, guest speakers, games and the chance to meet and have a laugh with everyone else that's there. The next one is just a week away and our very own Jamicus will be leading the worship.

Any questions, please speak to either Steve or Natasha Wood.
