Pastoral News: 02 August 09
We are delighted that Marvin Chilton has been able to “come home” and is currently in the Windsor unit at Bletchley. He has been able to spend some time at home, and is currently awaiting reinstatement to the heart transplant list. We pray for him and his family in this new period of waiting, and give thanks for the return of strength.
Elsie Smith has been unwell whilst away on holiday and we remember her as she awaits further treatment
Many friends of the church will know Gordon Mead, a member of the United Reformed Church in town, who is currently in hospital. We remember Gordon in his needs.
Congratulations
We send our congratulations to Frances Whitaker and Craig Chandler who were married yesterday. We pray that they will know God’s blessing on their future together as husband and wife.
Brigades’ Camp in Folkestone
We continue to remember our young people and their officers at their Brigades’ Camp in Folkestone. Whilst the weather news has been mixed, the other news has all been good with everyone having a great time so far. We pray specifically that God will do big things amongst the campers this coming week.
Homegroups Through the Summer
Two of our homegroups our continuing to meet during the month of August. If the group you normally meet with is in recess, you are most welcome to join with one of these groups. Please note however that the Monday homegroup is meeting on Thursdays. The diary on the back page has all the details.
Family BBQ and Quiz Night
A quiz night and BBQ is to be held on Thursday 13th August! This is to help raise funds for Amy McLeod’s mission trip to South Africa. It will also provide an excellent opportunity to utilise what’s left of our summer evenings to enjoy some fun, food, frolicking and friendship! For tickets please contact Caroline McLeod or Chris & Alan Webb. Tickets are £7.00 for Adults and £3.00 for children (discounts for families). We look forward to seeing you there!
Parking Complaint
The church has received a complaint from the Rose and Crown Public House (opposite Lovat Hall) because some people attending Sunday morning worship are using the pub’s car park (this is a private car park). They have requested that we refrain from this practice as it limits the spaces available for their customers. Please can we ask for everyone’s co-operation in this matter?
The Newport Muster
A new community event, The Newport Muster, is taking place on Saturday 12th September. First of all it is intended as a way of celebrating some of the many benefits of our historic town of Newport Pagnell. Secondly it’s a fund-raising day built round a choice of organised walks in the town and its neighbouring Ouse valley. Many local organisations and businesses are taking part in the event and the organisers are hoping all the churches in the town will also actively support it.
The multi-purpose event is themed on Newport Pagnell’s historic role as a garrison during the Civil War, first for the Royalists and then for Cromwell’s men. Bury Field, an area of commonland in the middle of Newport, will be a central feature of the walking day; just as it was 350 years ago when it played a central role in the garrison town’s defences. “Quite apart from anything else, we hope the people of Newport will turn out in large numbers to show how much they value the retention of this wonderful open-space amenity when the pressure these days seems to be for more and more commercial development” said a Muster spokesman.
For further information as well as an entry form for registering teams, families and individuals go to the official website at www.newportmuster.org
Swine Flu Precautions
The leadership have discussed what could be done to lessen the spread of the Swine Flu virus at NPBC and the following items are to be implemented:
· For Communion individual disposable cups are to be used at all services; the bread will be from a sliced loaf that has been pre cut
· Disposable cups are to be used for teas/coffees and the children’s squash
· Parents to be requested to bring in their own feeder cups for small children
· Antibacterial hand wash to be available in the kitchen and toilets
· Antibacterial gel to be available in the kitchen
· Antibacterial wipes in the offices for use on telephones etc
· All door handles, taps and work surfaces are to be cleaned before and after events
· Carpets will not be used for crèche, or parent and baby/toddler groups
· Please do not attend any service/event if you have any of the flu symptoms
Thank you for your understanding and willingness to co-operate with the above precautions.
