Bethany Centre
NOT SO when you spend a day at the Bethany Centre. The Tickford Room is wonderfully light, welcoming and warm, the lunch would satisfy even Egon Ronay himself. It is always appetising and the chefs are generous to a fault with a frequent second helping to satisfy any gastronome or gannet. The twenty or so folk who come are special and include two nifty Nonogenerians batting steadily towards their century, a delightful bunch of Octogeraniums who decorate the Tickford room every week, and then there are the young ones! Along with our admirable cooks, we are a fellowship who are conscious of a spirit of concern for one another and who are rarely absent. MEMBERS SAY............. "I like coming to Bethany for the pleasant company the varied conversation, moral support, and the exercises. The opportunity to participate in board games plus a very enjoyable meal. Bethany has become my extended family." "I have attended Bethany since its small beginnings some four years ago and continued when it moved to Lovat Hall.. I look forward to this social event in the middle of the week. Most of all I enjoy the meals and the exercises. The meals are provided by a different team of people each week who shop, prepare, and cook and then serve us with delicious meals. They clear up whilst we are in the Chapel. They do a grand job well. Thankfully they have not been seduced by the T.V. chefs and their fashionable ways of chargrilling and caramelising." "I like the Christian atmosphere" "I like to see the Cross in the main Hall" "The time in the Chapel means a great deal to me" We discovered the attractions of Lovat Hall when we were exiled for three months back in the summer while the refurbishment of the Tickford room took place. Happily we were able to use the Brooklands Day centre with its comfortable facilities through the kindness of the NPOP Welfare Committee. But there is no place quite like home so we were glad to be back at Lovat Hall. Twice in the year we were taken out to lunch across the county boundary to Keeley Green and in June we spent a good day in Bourton on the Water. Neil Campbell from the Health Centre keeps licking us into shape every week with his physio fun and light hearted football. We owe a great debt to the car drivers who gladly ferry us back and forth to the Centre and to others who step in when a special need arises. We rightly finish off the day in the quietness of the Chapel with a note of encouragement or brief meditation to take home. Alan Wearn |
